Instrumental in helping INXS out of a difficult void, old friend and cohort, Jimmy Barnes, physically pushed INXS into making their first public appearance as a band following the death of Michael Hutchence at the massive Mushroom 25th anniversary concert on 14 November 1998 in Melbourne for the esteemed Mushroom Records label. Mushroom released the 1986 number one hit single in Australia of 'Good Times' with INXS and Jimmy Barnes, and this was an opportunity to trod the boards with a close friend at the mic and test the waters while joining in the festivities of an Australian institution. INXS with Jimmy Barnes performed just two songs - 'The Loved One' and the aforementioned 'Good Times'. The fact that neither of the songs were INXS compositions probably made the playing of them slightly easier, but surely a sense of loss cast a shadow over their performance anyway. Jimmy did a great job leading the band, fitting in very well and both songs were surprisingly powerful takes. Going on without Michael would not be easy, but was not impossible. Originally released as a sprawling 3-CD set (now a single highlights CD is available with only 'Good Times' making the cut) and multiple video set, Mushroom 25 Live, in addition to INXS with Jimmy Barnes, features Paul Kelly, The Whitlams, Billy Thorpe, Diesel plus many others.
